Redwoods / Northern California

Today we continued on our journey north up the west coast.  On our way from Healdsburg to Eureka, we stopped in the Avenue of the Giants.  This is a scenic route through the Redwood National Forest.  We experienced the enormity of these redwoods, which grow between 350-400 feet.  THAT'S ENORMOUS.

After experiencing the Avenue of the Giants, we continued north on highway 101 to Eureka.  Once we landed in the town, we realized it was nothing like we thought it was going to be.  I was picturing a cute little beach town on the coast of the Pacific Ocean.  However, Eureka is a town that appears to be bankrupt with a drug problem.

We had to stop at a Walmart, and that only verified these thoughts.  So, we decided we would grab some food, head back to the hotel, and get some sleep so we could get an early start to Grants Pass the next day.

Mom found this Hawaiian restaurant online that she wanted to try called The Banana Hut, so we gave it a shot.  And I do have to say....it was DELICIOUS.  I got a teriyaki chicken that was the most tender and delicious thing I have ever tasted.  They also served two scoops of sticky rice with a pineapple teriyaki sauce drizzled over it and it was absolutely divine.  Everybody else had the same delicious experience with their food they ordered.

Afterwards, we bummed back to the hotel, and are now about the snooze so we can get an early start on our day tomorrow.  Grants Pass, here we come!
